I realize that people like Carrie Underwood and Kellie Pickler give country music a bad name.
I realize that country music has a lot of nasally voices.
I realize that there's a lot of 'achey heart' songs about whiskey and dogs and pickup trucks.
I live in Alabama and I have a slight Southern accent.
But, the thing is, I will defend it to the day I die. Sure, I also listen to stuff like Matchbox 20 and Fall Out Boy and Bright Eyes and even occasionally Rihanna. I like jazz music and Disney animated movie music.
I really, really, really love country music. I don't even know how to describe it. Songs by Taylor Swift make me sing along at loud volumes. Blake Shelton has an amazing voice. Miranda Lambert is the rebel bitch of country music. George Strait is the king. Darryl Worley is washed-up and Dierks Bentley and his gravelly voice are hot.
Words cannot describe my love of Garth Brooks and his music and my admiration of Trisha Yearwood's voice. Martina McBride's best decision was to grow her hair out and I want to punch the radio everytime Carrie Underwood comes on.
I love Patsy Cline and I know just about every word of Brad Paisley's songs. I lol at Dolly Parton and seethed when Miley Cyrus did a country duet with her dad because she is so unbelievably NOT country. I don't care how many 'Southern' euphemisms she uses in her TV show.
I was understandably confused when I heard Snoop Dogg had a country album coming out. I love Nan Kelley and her bright and cheery attitude and I will never stop rocking out to Neal McCoy's "Billy's Got His Beer Goggles On". I watch Nashville Star and lol because the only good thing to come out of that show was Miranda Lambert.
I totally noticed that Rodney Atkins had dip in his mouth when he did his medley at the CMT Awards and I totally noticed that everyone seemed to forget that Carrie Underwood was going to perform at the end. I love Taylor Swift and I don't care that she does not have a voice like Martina McBride. I think Tim McGraw has a nice voice but that his duets with his wife are getting a little tired.
I loved it when Nelly did the crossover duet with Tim, by the way.
Reba McEntire is probably my all-time favorite country woman and I love Terri Clark. Taylor Swift is a force to be reckoned with and I think Brad Paisley is going to be the next King of Country. Alan Jackson's songs are very classic. Everything that comes out of George Strait's mouth is a smash hit and Garth Brooks manages to be awesome even though he's retired.
So, in conclusion, ladies and jellyspoons, I don't give a shit.
